The AATO’s CPD program participation is part of maintaining your membership in the AATO. CPD is noted in credits based on hours of continuing professional development or development presented and is divided into three broad areas.

How do students join the AATO?
Students join the AATO as "associates". The first year is free. There is a student application form available on the AATO website under Become a Member. Students need to submit a professor's verification of student status.

What is the legal authority for the AATO?
For almost 60 years, the AATO has been the governing body regulating four professional designations authorized by the Association of Architectural Technologists of Ontario Act, 1996. The Act, and recent Court decisions, confirm the AATO's authority and the legal standing of these titles.
What is the M.A.A.T.O. credential?
The M.A.A.T.O. is the membership credential for the Association of Architectural Technologists of Ontario. It is a symbol that the credentialed or certified member displays, indicative of their participation within the community of Architectural Technology in Ontario and with AATO allied partners globally.

Are the AATO credentials recognized internationally?
With the recent June 2025 completion of the court cases related to the authority and standing of the AATO professional designations, the credentials have been verified, in addition, to globally-recognized ISO 17024 standards.
