What You’ll Do

Reporting to the Facilities Manager, the Facilities Project Technologist is responsible for providing

assistance in identifying, implementing and managing required capital improvements, managing

the capital budget and the maintenance of Energy Management Systems for all county owned

properties. The Technologist assesses current conditions, forecasts capital expenditures, and

prioritizes projects based on risk and budget considerations.

Contract Duration: 24 months


What We’re Looking For

Education & Experience

  • Three-year post-secondary diploma in Engineering Technology, Architectural Technology,

Facilities Management, or a related field

  • Minimum five years of experience working as a construction professional with exposure to

all aspects of building construction, systems, and maintenance

  • Three years of experience working in a municipal setting as a construction professional with

exposure to all aspects of building construction, systems, and maintenance


Skills & Abilities

  • Demonstrated knowledge of and ability to assess all building sciences, including electrical,

plumbing, and heating, air conditioning, carpentry, masonry, building envelope, roofing,

civil works, etc.

  • Thorough knowledge of applicable codes and legislation, e.g., the Ontario Building Code,

Fire Code of Ontario, the Ontario Clean Water Act, etc.

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office applications, AutoCAD, asset management software
  • Demonstrated knowledge of forecasting, estimating, and budgeting on both a project and

portfolio level and the development of multi-year capital replacement budgets and plans.

  • Demonstrated project management skills
  • Ability to manage coordination efforts in construction projects with various parties, such as

building officials, contractors and consultants

  • Ability to create realistic schedules to support the timely completion of construction

projects

  • Demonstrated ability to exercise necessary cost control measures
  • Demonstrate working knowledge and experience with information technology for

integration of systems such as closed-circuit television, access control and building

automation

  • Demonstrate the ability to read blueprints, schematics, field drawings, and plans
  • Demonstrate knowledge of asset management and the ability to develop short term and

long-term strategic implementation plans for forecasted projects

  • Demonstrated ability to exercise necessary cost control measures
  • Assuming full authority for the entire facilities department in the facilities Manager’s

absence

  • Demonstrated project management skills
  • Highly developed understanding of industry regulations, standards, and best practices
  • Proven experience preparing and conducting post-implementation evaluations
  • Sound analytical thinking, planning, prioritization, and execution skills
  • Valid G driver’s license and clean abstract

What We Offer

  • Competitive Salary: $46.24-$54.40 per hour
  • Hours per week: 35
  • Percentage in lieu of benefits
